Lets flash back to the '90s, when swing music was enjoying a huge
surge of popularity with an audience experiencing the irresistible
rhythms for the first time. Many groups jumped on the band wagon,
but the undisputed king of the dance floor on the Jersey Shore was
Gotham City Swing. Anchored by the innovative and catchy songwriting
of pianist Jim Lapidus and the unpredictable and fun on-stage antics
of front man Mike Whittles, Gotham CIty Swing attracted a loyal following
of swing fans to their shows. Indeed, their live shows were guaranteed
to be a high energy and often volatile affair. In addition to performing
regularly for enthusiastic dancers, Gotham City Swing released two studio
albums, including their critically acclaimed sophmore release,
Smitty's Last Dance.
Over the years Gotham City Swing has undergone several changes including
sometimes performing with local Jazz and Blues diva Pat Tandy and
expanding their repertoire to include jump blues, American songbook standards,
and even classic R&B. One thing that has not changed however, is this
bands superior musicianship and outrageously entertaining live shows, where
everybody is invited onto the dance floor. For information on hiring
